Of monuments and sculptures

Monuments and sculptures are meant to convey a certain message or allow us remember those for whom the monument has been set up. There is one that I see every day.

Monument dedicated to builders of the railway.

But apparently there is an issue with respect and memory.

People regularly take their dogs to the little park where this memorial has been installed and you can hardly walk around for the amount of pee and poop there.

IKKK!

  1. You know last year marked 100 years of the building of the Uganda Railway. There is absolutely no monument to the hundreds who built the rail link. It’s a pity.

A guess a poop-filled park is better than none at all.

    • Well, the railway is defunct, right? But you’re right, we need to be a more “remembering” kind of people.

  2. The railway is not defunct munange. It has its problems – particularly with the current concessionaire – but it is running.

Was thinking of public tributes to Ugandan ‘heroes’. Apart from the obvious ones – M7, the Commonwealth soldiers and Kabaka whatnot, there are barely any. Off to do some more investigations …

  3. dont you just hate the dog poop? If I see somebody with a dog pooping and they do not pick it up, I shout at them! I think my neighbors think that I am crazy or something… maybe thats why they scurry for cover when they see me walking by! :) )

  4. Update! Update! Update! :-(
